Turn Your Fashion Into A High Performing Machine

by Aaron Finch

Starting your fashion brand doesn’t have to be complicated.

Here is one of the best ways to make sure that your start-up is on track, and reaching its full potential, is by understanding how business models work and how you can use them for maximum efficiency.

What is a business model? Where can you find one? In these blog posts I’ll cover the basics of designing an effective fashion market model, so that you can understand what it takes to turn your fashion into a high performing machine.

To get started let’s talk about why businesses exist in general.

Every single business you have ever seen in life is at its core a service, whether they call it ‘store’, ‘restaurant’ or whatever.

An excellent example of this are the stores that make you feel ‘cute’ and ‘pretty’. These are called malls, department stores and shops.

They exist as all businesses exist to provide services: they exist to sell products and services which they can then use to generate revenue, both of which they have invested into in order to save time by not having to carry out the physical work themselves (and risk the possibility of the loss of those investments).

Tips to Turn Your Fashion Into A High Performing Machine :

1. Develop Your Product

As a fashion designer you are at the head of the supply chain. Without your ability to provide something consumers want to consume, no one will buy your product.

That’s why it is very important that you produce a quality product, as this is what will give you the reputation and authority to fulfil orders and build a brand.

The most important part of developing your product is determining what it is you want to do, and know that doing so helps you come up with answers to all of life’s most pressing questions. For our purposes, let’s say you want to turn your really cool designs into a high performing machine. Here are some tips on what not to do:

2. Create a Trend

Creating trends is a great way to reach your target audience and generate revenue. However, this can be very difficult to do.

One of the best ways to create a trend is by being very focused in your designs. Trends are nothing new; they are just slightly repositioned versions of previous designs.

Another way to create a trend is by using design principles, especially style rules (which I’ll explain in this post).

Style rules will help you create fashion that cannot be misconstrued as something else, which gives it the edge when trying to become unique.

3. Position Your Designs

Once you have created your product, the next step is to position it in front of your target customer.

The goal is to have that customer experience, recognize and find value in your product. This can be done by using a positioning statement.

4. Reach Your Target Audience

When designing an effective business model, you need to be very clear about who you are designing for.

You want to make sure that the people who buy from you will want to tell their friends about your products, this way increasing your followers and helping you create a high performing machine for yourself.

5. Understand Design Principles

A business model is no different than a product; it has to be designed in order to fulfill its purpose, which is why it’s important that you understand design principles so that you can apply them to your business.

In these blog posts, we talked about several design principles, like style guides and style rules, which are what you’ll use in order to understand how meaningful elements come together and create meaning in a larger context.

Following these principles will help you make great products, especially when you want to create a high performing machine for yourself.

6. Create an Effective Marketing Plan

A marketing strategy is an excellent way to help you reach your target audience and generate revenue.

One of the best ways to create a marketing strategy is by positioning your brand in a very specific way, so that people have no other choice but to recognize it.

7. Understand the Fundamentals of Organisational Design

Running a business can be very challenging and overwhelming, especially when you are just starting out.

That’s why you need to understand the fundamentals of organizational systems design in order to effectively structure and manage your business so that it will work for you!

8. Build a Brand for Your Business

Building a brand for your business can be a very rewarding experience. The benefits of branding are many: it helps make your business recognizable, memorable, and established.

In order to build a strong brand, you need to be able to use the tools of design such as colour and type in order to create meaning.
