Colby Keller is probably one of the most recognizable names in the menswear industry right now. 

That’s because he owns six high-fashion labels under his own label, Amici. Although he’s been churning out collections for men and women for a number of years, the name “AEO” was only recently added to his brand. 

The name was partly inspired by Keller’s love of classic Hollywood and the sound of A-E-O on a chalkboard. When Amici originally launched in 2005, the name caught on quickly with top retailers and celebrities like Paris Hilton, Anthony Kiedis and Ryan Gosling jumping on board to wear it.

THE BEAR AND THE HUMAN

The Bear & The Human co-founders Crystal Meiklejohn and Paul Maramaldi met at a work event about five years ago and hadn’t spoken for nearly ten years after she relocated from London as Maramaldi was living in New York. 

While on the phone chatting with Meiklejohn and her other friends one day, Maramaldi suggested the idea of launching a denim label together and called it “The Bear & The Human.” Meiklejohn didn’t hesitate in telling him that she thought it was a great name. 

The name was short, catchy and had a good rhythm when spoken aloud. It also made her think about the way animals will always prefer to be with their own kind.
